Howard & Michelle... you remember them, right? Two of the most wonderful
people Breck can boast, folks... check out their shop "High Altitude" if
you're out there or at www.aheadhigher.com . Free plug, there... but
honestly it really was cool of Howard to leave his work day to iron out this
crap with me... like he has time for this?
While I waited for Howard to call me the next day I sat and worked on a
jigsaw puzzle in the condo... I hadn't touched one in years but it all came
back to me, the methodology behind them... it was very relaxing...
I'm gonna take up Bingo and Shuffle Board next...
Anyway, when Howard called John and I went to Josha's and tweaked until John
was a happy camper then it was back to the condo for a nice dinner before the
show...
3/29/83 from The Warfield, anyone?
The funny thing about ski towns I was to find out is that the people who come
through the door might not be there to specifically see the band... lots of
lodges, etc. have package deals with the clubs so you get your average freaks
standing with some very confused tourists who can become unhinged quite
easily... the tourists, I mean...
... the freaks are ALREADY unhinged...
A couple notes on the second night:
Candyman rocked. 'Nuff Said.
The only other stand-out for me was "Johnny B. Goode"... that's because
during the song the right side of the PA decided it had had enough and
crapped out... Howard was familiar with this problem as "it used to happen
all the time, but not anymore" and he fixed it quickly... thank you, man!
Hey, maybe I was flyin' a bit too close to the sun and pushin' the PA a bit
too hard but you have to understand... the PA in the place blew dogs for wine
change... so I appreciate everything Howard put into it and everything I got
out of it and while I'm on the subject I really ought to clear something up
here... I mean this as no attack on the guys who owned Josha's... I guess I
was a bit heavy handed in my review of Josha's last time we were out there
and I'm sorry, guys... you treated us GREAT and the condo was a fantastic
location and beat the snot out of a hotel room any day... but a bulldozer was
the best thing that ever happened to that PA (Josha's is no more, it was
leveled two weeks after our shows for condo construction)...
The other nice bit was "Hey Pockey Way" which is a song I had patiently
waited for them to work on (I learned with "Lazy Light/Supp." that badgering
them does no good) and I am impressed with the way Mike gives Scott a little
boost vocally on the high bits... some nights you can't really separate the
two... and this was really one of the first times the band had played it live
so it was scorching with energy... sold out show number two!
So now Breck has no real live music scene... glad we could squeak in there at
the last minute and meet the people we did, though... guess you folks will
have to come down off the mountain... to a place like... Boulder?
COMING SOON: A Day Off, Midnight At The Oasis, Bunko At The Boulder, and The
Almighty Fox Theater!!! I'm BAAAAAAAaaa-aaaAAAAAAACK!!!
